All Things Impossible is a multimedia project bringing together improvised music, poetry and moving image.
The music was created by TRICHOTOMY in response to a series of poems by Melbourne poet Ashley Capes. Each piece is around one minute long and was recorded spontaneously in the trio’s Brisbane studio. No arrangements, no predetermined structures, just an immediate response to the text and to eachanother.
The result is a collection of brief, intimate sound worlds: restrained, spacious and emotionally charged. Rather than feeling compressed by their short duration, the pieces create room for silence, texture and small musical gestures to take on greater weight.
Designer Paul Underwood then created a visual response to each track, drawing on a personal archive of found and observed footage collected over several years. His abstract, strangely alluring films sit alongside the music as a parallel experience rather than a literal illustration.
The poems themselves are presented with the release, offering another way into the project and allowing music, text and image to exist side by side.
All Things Impossible is something different for us - a collection of fleeting musical moments that invite close listening, slow attention and a second look.
